Until someone writes a decent smartphone app that tells me the coolest things that are going on in Louisville during the weekend ... I will start my own weekly 'blog special' totally dedicated to the fun, socially stimulating happenings that are in our town on Fridays and Saturdays.
Yes .... I know that there are several internet sites that make a valiant attempt at this. But, I need someone that I trust that has decent taste to tell me 4 or 5 things that are going on where I can have a pretty decent chance of running into some interesting people and have a good time!

FRIDAY FEB 6 - Eight Inch Elvis
Molly Malone's is a very cool/laid back bar in The Highlands. They are having a fundraiser for a little 5 year old girl. Eight Inch Elvis is playing the gig. They are a Louisville area cover band who pretty much play anything from Aerosmith to Lady Gaga to CeeLo Green. They are always a fun band to watch and are a huge crowd pleaser.

FRIDAY FEB 6 and SATURDAY FEB 7 - Kirby's Dreamland
One of my favorite Louisville cover bands is Kirby's Dreamland. They are a kick ass band led by the slick as hell vocals of Tommy Miller. You can expect a little of everything from this band including some really amazing originals. They will be at Stevie Ray's both nights this weekend.

FRIDAY FEB 6 - 8pm to 11pm - Robbie Bartlett
If you want to hear the sultry,sexy voice of the one and only Robbie Bartlett, then head on over to The Planet Experience in the Highlands. This cool bistro/martini bar is a great hang. They have a small tapas menu and some fabulous cocktails.

FRIDAY FEB 6 - RuPaul-a-palooza
I am a bit upset that I won't be in town this weekend to see this event. If you are a huge RuPaul's Drag Race fan like me ... then you will want to high tail it down to Play Louisville in Butchertown. This is a 'gaycentric' club ... but I think it is far more than that. Usually it is a good mashup of hetero couples and gays. It is part cabaret/part dance club. They have incredibly high production value shows in the cabaret area and then in the dance club area they having a thumping DJ. Friday night they will host several RuPaul Drag Race contestants who will strut the stage at 10pm, midnight and 2am. Yessssssssss!!!

FRIDAY FEB 6 - 9pm - Trippin' Billies
Mercury Ballroom on 4th St is a fantastic new music venue on the scene. Friday they will be hosting Tripping Billies. They are a righteous Dave Matthews tribute band.

SATURDAY FEB 7 - 9pm to midnight - Whiskey Bent Valley Boys
Bearno's By The Bridge will be hosting one of the best bluegrass/folk/country bands that I've seen in a long time. Whiskey Bent Valley will be tearing it up! Seriously, if you liked the soundtrack to 'O, Brother Where Art Thou' .... then you'll like these boys!
